Career

Burrows Investment Group, Owner, Charlotte, 1998-Present. Providing consulting services that integrate 18 years of business experience and technology expertise to increase operating efficiencies and productivity. Services offered include integration, implementation and customization of software applications; networking; database management; Internet and eCommerce solutions; financial strategies; marketing and training. Projects include:

  • Project Manager for a $17 million, 152-unit condominium conversion. Charged with all aspects of this venture including analysis, development, budgeting, marketing, sales and coordination with owners, contractors and financial interests.

  • Created comprehensive budget and monthly financial reporting for multi-site operation in conjunction with existing accounting program. Eliminated redundancy of data input and produced consistent reporting among users with varying levels of experience. · Conversion of Act! contact database into Outlook using Access to convert data. Creation of a custom contact form and integration with other Office applications using VBA Macros and incorporating software solutions for Outlook and Palm PDA's.

  • Setup of small peer-to-peer network including centralized data sharing, printer sharing, incorporation of backup utilities and setup of QuickBooks networking software. Project also included recommendation for and installation of additional software and hardware, as well as building a custom workstation for expanding operations.

  • Created new Excel workbooks to improve and automate existing reporting. Included use of database connectivity to Access and VBA to provide up-to-the-minute sales data for monthly status reports. Additional automated reports offer information for sales comparison to budget, contract exposure, divisional 'roll-up' totals for all projects, year-to-year comparisons and schedules for actual versus contracted sales.

  • Modifications to Access database to provide custom reporting. Revised VBA programming code to improve usability and created additional reporting tools. Used this database as a source for merging to Word documents for additional reports and correspondence, reducing redundant input of information.

  • Comprehensive Website revisions for a change management company that incorporated the use of tables for Web page layout, PhotoShop to create custom logos and multimedia and HTML coding improvements.

  • Other: Creation of custom Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Corel documents, mail merge files and forms; training in Excel, Word and basic computer skills and maintenance; marketing strategies; software and hardware recommendations and installation, as well as building custom computers to user specifications.

Instructor, Stanly Community College, 2000-2001. Classes included Internet Fundamentals covering networking; Internet protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP, etc.); using and configuring email clients; use of Web Browsers, newsgroups and search engines; FTP and use of HTML to create student Web sites. Online instruction included courses for Microsoft Word and Excel MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) Certifications. Integrated class and online interaction by creating comprehensive class Websites and using the WebCT delivery system for assignments, tests, scheduling, FAQ, etc. to facilitate a positive learning environment.

Equity Residential Properties Trust, Regional Manager, Charlotte, 1997-98.  Managed multi-family portfolio for national REIT in the Metro DC Area, Charlotte, NC and Greenville, SC. Accountable for assets totaling $200 million; operating budgets in excess of $15 million; and management of over 70 associates. Projects included transition of 6 newly acquired properties in NC and SC and $23 million purchase of 277-unit high-rise in Alexandria, VA, among others. Developed national relocation and rental call center utilizing 600 plus property network.

Trammell Crow Residential Services, Regional Manager, Charlotte, 1995-97.  Responsible for all aspects of 7 apartment communities totaling over 2500 units and 60 employees in NC, SC and TN. Included budgets, marketing, lease-up strategies, owners/investors coordination and reporting. Exceeded profit goals for every property. Top operating performance was proven by 11/96 sale for highest per unit price in NC history. Led largest new construction project in company history with 600-unit property in Nashville, TN. Marketed the company's management services and investment opportunities to property owners across the US.

Donathan Properties, Inc., Director of Property Management, Greensboro, 1994-95.  First COO for this expanding company, responsible for developing focused, consistent management across 8 multi-family properties totaling 2,000 units. Accountable for P&L's, operations, policies and procedures, and supervision of 50 site personnel across the Triad and Triangle.

Southern National Bank of North Carolina
  • Business Development Officer, High Point, 1993-94.  Promoted to larger market to grow loan/deposit base and market share.  Named to Chairman's Club, for exceeding annual goals in less than 9 months.  Increased portfolio from $6 million to $12 million in less than one year.

  • City Executive, Burlington, 1991-93.  Assumed full operating responsibility for this newly acquired small market, building office from retained staff.  Developed and implemented budgets, systems, operations, and marketing which yielded improved perceptions, higher awareness, and growth in deposits from $17 million to $36 million in 18 months.

  • Retail Banking Manager, Greensboro, 1990-91.  Responsible for 55 employees, 6 branch offices, $160 million in deposits and $8 million personal loan portfolio.  Coordinated acquisition of Southeastern and Preferred Savings Banks, including marketing and strategic planning across 4 markets.

  • Commercial Loan Officer, Greensboro, 1989-90.  Grew loan portfolio by 33% in less than 12 months, earning promotion to Vice President.

First Citizens Bank and Trust.  Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager, 1985-89.  Promoted to larger branch after tripling consumer loan volume in first assignment.
